Our new project, Beneath Our Footsteps, focuses on a lost river of Leytonstone in London – Philley Brook (Phillebrook) – to explore local and social histories.
Over the past few months, we have been working with different groups of local residents to creatively rediscover the lost Philley Brook river, which runs beneath the streets of Upper Walthamstow, Leytonstone, and Leyton.
We produced a series of artist-led digital art activities, inviting residents to create a collaborative artwork exploring the Philley Brook river and celebrating the local heritage.
This included a guided Digi Photo + Sound Walk tracing the course of the Philley Brook river with local psychogeographer John Rogers and sound artist Brigitte Hart; a series of family-friendly 3D scanning and terrain modelling workshops as part of the Leyton Más carnival; and a multi-media workshop for neurodivergent young people aged 14 to 25 as part of Some Kind of Hack Space in collaboration with equalities designer and researcher Natasha Trotman.
Join us at No.1 Church Lane to celebrate the outcomes of this project and for the launch of the interactive, collaborative web-based artwork made with input from all participants involved!
